Fox Valley Newcomer Project

We are a small group of individuals interested in ensuring that Newcomers can not only survive when they become part of our community, but thrive.

For the purposes of this project, we define Newcomers as: A first-generation immigrant individual or family having resettled to the area and/or the United States between 0-5 years ago.

The Newcomer Summit

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Newcomer Community Summit on August 7th, 2023.

115 community members came together across all sectors in our community for a Leadership Summit to understand the experiences of Newcomers in our community. We engaged in a variety of activities, including learning from a panel of 5 speakers, all sharing their own experiences as Newcomers from a wide range of ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, and linguistic backgrounds. We all left feeling more connection, responsibility, and gratitude for the ways in which we are all working to build networks of care and support.

Thank you to the planning and facilitation committee for this event: Brian Bankert (Trinity Lutheran Church), Rayon Brown (FVTC), Jim Case (Common Ground), Greg Hartjes (AASD), Amy Swick (AASD), Jason Schulist (GLCI), Timber Smith (City of Appleton), Oliver Zornow (Building for Kids).
